Likely Interview Questions
- 1
Walk us through how you have led an audit engagement from planning to completion — what was your role and what were the key challenges you navigated?
- 2
How do you handle a situation where you identify a material misstatement in a client's financial statements and the client pushes back on your findings?
- 3
Describe your experience applying IFRS standards in practice — can you give a specific example where an IFRS interpretation was complex or disputed?
- 4
How do you manage and mentor junior team members during a high-pressure audit engagement with tight deadlines?
- 5
Tell us about a time you used audit software (such as IDEA or TeamMate) to improve the efficiency or quality of an audit — what did you do and what was the outcome?
Application Tips
Quantify your audit experience on your CV — list the number of engagements led, the size of clients by revenue or asset base, and the sectors covered, as Deloitte values breadth across financial services, manufacturing, and public sector.
Highlight specific IFRS standards you have applied (e.g. IFRS 9, IFRS 16, IFRS 15) rather than listing IFRS generically — this signals technical depth that distinguishes senior candidates.
Mention any experience using IDEA or TeamMate by name in your application; even limited exposure to these tools is worth noting given how explicitly they feature in the requirements.

A typical week might begin with an engagement planning meeting where you align your team on fieldwork priorities for a financial services client, then spend the middle of the week on-site reviewing working papers, testing internal controls, and interrogating data using IDEA. By Thursday you're back in the office reviewing junior associates' work and drafting a memo to the engagement manager flagging an IFRS 9 classification issue you've identified, before wrapping up Friday with a client call to walk through preliminary findings and agree next steps.
