Job Description

Role Overview

Britam Asset Managers is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Business Operations Officer to join its operations team in Nairobi. This role sits at the heart of the firm's investment operations, carrying responsibility for the end-to-end administration, valuation, and performance measurement of Unit Trust Funds, Wealth Management Funds, Retail Pension schemes, and Discretionary Client portfolios.

The successful candidate will serve as a critical link between fund managers, custodians, trustees, regulators, and clients — ensuring that all operational processes run with precision, compliance, and efficiency. This is a high-accountability role that also extends operational support to BAM Uganda under the hub-and-spoke framework, making cross-border coordination experience a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily fund valuation including pricing, amortization, revaluation, and impairment of equities, fixed income instruments, indices, and FX positions.
  • Review and post portfolio income entries and conduct validation checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of fund pricing processes.
  • Execute daily cash and investment reconciliations between custodians and internal fund records; investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks promptly.
  • Conduct monthly asset holding reconciliations between custodian banks and fund managers, monitoring cash positions, investment balances, and settlement activities.
  • Oversee recording and settlement of traded securities, corporate actions, and disbursement transactions in line with internal controls and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), trustees, and other stakeholders within stipulated timelines.
  • Produce statutory, client, and management reports accurately and on schedule.
  • Review and disseminate client statements, contract notes, and transaction confirmations; resolve client operational queries within agreed turnaround times.
  • Measure fund performance against benchmarks; compute, accrue, and validate management fees, expenses, and fund-related charges.
  • Prepare periodic portfolio holdings, movement, revenue, and performance reports.
  • Provide operational support to BAM Uganda and coordinate with custodians, trustees, finance, IT, and client service teams.
  • Participate in system enhancements, UAT exercises, and process improvement and automation initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience performing daily NAV calculations and fund pricing for collective investment schemes or pension funds.
  • Show proven ability to manage cash and securities reconciliations with custodian banks, identifying and resolving breaks independently.
  • Apply working knowledge of Kenyan capital markets regulations, CMA and RBA reporting requirements, and fund administration best practices.
  • Use fund accounting or investment management systems (e.g., SimCorp, Bloomberg, or similar platforms) to process and validate transactions.
  • Interpret complex portfolio data and produce clear, accurate performance and compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with custodians, trustees, regulators, and clients in writing and verbally.
  • Support automation and digitization projects by actively participating in UAT and contributing to process redesign.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; CPA, ACCA, or CFA progress is a strong advantage.
  • Bring at least 4–6 years of experience in fund administration, investment operations, or asset management back-office roles.
Salary & Benefits

Britam offers a competitive compensation package benchmarked to the Kenyan financial services market. For a Senior Officer-level role in asset management operations, the estimated monthly gross salary ranges from KES 150,000 to KES 250,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The package is complemented by a performance-based bonus and a comprehensive employee benefits suite consistent with a leading regional insurer and asset manager.

Who Should Apply

Ideal candidates are finance or accounting professionals with solid back-office investment operations experience, a strong grasp of Kenyan regulatory frameworks for funds and pensions, and a track record of managing reconciliations and valuations in a fast-paced environment. You thrive under deadlines, have a keen eye for accuracy, and are comfortable working across teams and borders.

Do not apply if you have no direct exposure to fund administration or investment operations, if you are uncomfortable with high-volume data reconciliation work, or if regulatory reporting in a financial services context is entirely new to you. This is not an entry-level accounting role.
