Accountant

Connect Coffee Roasters is a dynamic and growing Nairobi-based coffee roasting company passionate about delivering exceptional coffee experiences across Kenya and beyond. As we scale our operations, we are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team and help us maintain the financial health and integrity of the business.

In this role, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of day-to-day accounting operations — from managing payables and receivables to supporting audits and ensuring compliance with Kenyan tax regulations. • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial records, statements, and management reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring proper documentation and approvals.
• Manage payroll processing, ensuring all statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, NHIF/SHIF, NITA) are calculated correctly and remitted on time.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and cash flow projections to support management decision-making.
• Ensure full compliance with Kenyan accounting standards, KRA tax requirements (VAT, corporate tax, withholding tax), and internal company policies.
• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and providing all required supporting documentation.
• Perform regular bank and account reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Maintain an organised and up-to-date filing system for all financial records and documentation.
• Liaise with suppliers, clients, and financial institutions as required to resolve queries and maintain strong working relationships.
• Provide actionable financial insights and reports to management to support strategic planning.

• Demonstrate proficiency in preparing and reviewing financial statements in accordance with IFRS or GAAP standards.
• Show proven ability to manage full-cycle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing with minimal supervision.
• Exhibit strong working knowledge of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax compliance requirements including VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax filing via iTax.
• Demonstrate experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar ERP systems effectively.
• Show ability to perform detailed account and bank reconciliations, identifying root causes of variances and resolving them efficiently.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and numerical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Exhibit the ability to meet tight financial reporting deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Show proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial modelling, data analysis, and reporting.
• Hold CPA Part II qualification or above (CPA (K) preferred) alongside a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Possess at least 2–4 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably within the FMCG, food and beverage, or manufacturing sector.

The salary for this position is open and will be discussed during the interview process based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Based on market benchmarks for accountants in Nairobi with 2–4 years of experience, the expected range is KES 60,000 – 100,000 per month. Ideal Candidate: You are a self-motivated accounting professional with at least 2 years of experience handling end-to-end accounting functions. You have a solid grasp of Kenyan tax laws, love working with numbers, and take pride in accuracy and compliance. You are comfortable working in an SME environment where you wear multiple hats and take ownership of your work. Experience in the food, beverage, or retail sector is a strong advantage.
