Audit & Compliance Officer

AAA Growers, one of Kenya's leading horticultural exporters, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Audit & Compliance Officer to join its quality assurance and compliance team in Nairobi. This role sits at the intersection of food safety, regulatory compliance, and quality systems management, making it a critical function within the organisation's operations.

• Plan, coordinate, and conduct internal audits covering BRCGS, GlobalG.A.P., customer standards, organic certification, and other applicable compliance frameworks.
• Participate in and provide logistical support for second-party and third-party audits, ensuring all non-conformities are addressed and closed within stipulated timelines.
• Maintain up-to-date audit schedules, certification records, and compliance databases to ensure continuous audit-readiness.
• Coordinate and track staff training programmes, maintaining comprehensive training records and competency matrices across departments.
• Support the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the company's Quality Management Systems (QMS).
• Manage statutory compliance obligations including Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), NEMA, WRA, PCPB, and Public Health regulations.
• Conduct supplier audits and systematically follow up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
• Maintain the company's legal register and all associated compliance documentation to ensure accuracy and currency.
• Facilitate periodic review, updating, and implementation of food safety manuals, standard operating procedures, and technical standards.
• Support Critical Control Point (CCP) validation, Operational Prerequisite (OPR) monitoring, and overall food safety system effectiveness assessments.
• Participate in stock-taking exercises and provide audit support during internal and external review periods.

• Demonstrate hands-on experience coordinating BRCGS, GlobalG.A.P., HACCP, or equivalent food safety audits from planning through to non-conformity closure.
• Apply working knowledge of statutory regulatory frameworks including OSH Act, NEMA, WRA, PCPB, and Public Health requirements in an operational setting.
• Produce clear, structured audit reports and compliance documentation that meet both internal and third-party reviewer standards.
• Manage multiple compliance workstreams simultaneously, prioritising effectively to meet certification renewal deadlines and audit schedules.
• Facilitate cross-functional training sessions and maintain accurate training matrices that demonstrate workforce competency against food safety requirements.
• Use Microsoft Office tools and compliance databases to track, analyse, and report on audit findings and corrective action progress.
• Engage confidently with third-party auditors, regulatory inspectors, and internal stakeholders at all levels.
• Work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team within a packhouse, manufacturing, or food processing environment.

The salary for this position is open and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. Based on market benchmarks for mid-level compliance and quality assurance roles in Kenya's agri-food sector, the expected range is approximately KES 80,000 – 150,000 per month. Ideal candidate: A food science or quality assurance graduate with at least three to five years of practical experience in audit coordination, food safety systems, and regulatory compliance within a packhouse, food manufacturing, or agricultural export setting. You are meticulous, proactive, and comfortable navigating complex certification landscapes.

Who should NOT apply: Candidates without direct exposure to food safety audits or certification standards such as BRCGS or GlobalG.A.P. should not apply. This role is not suited to fresh graduates with no practical compliance experience, nor to candidates whose background is exclusively in non-food industries.
