Job Description
Nova Pioneer is seeking a passionate and driven Associate Dean of Instruction & Learning to join its Tatu Primary School campus. This is a pivotal instructional leadership role for an educator who combines classroom excellence with the ability to coach, inspire, and develop other teachers. You will work at the intersection of curriculum delivery, school culture, and academic performance — helping shape the learning journey of hundreds of young Kenyans.
Reporting to and supported by the Dean of Instruction & Learning, you will take on a hybrid role: teaching up to ten lessons per week in your area of specialisation while simultaneously driving instructional quality across the school through coaching, data analysis, and professional development. If you are deeply committed to inquiry-based learning, high expectations, and transforming African education, this role is for you.
- Teach a maximum of ten (10) lessons per week in your subject area, modelling exemplary, inquiry-based classroom practice.
- Partner with the Principal to develop and articulate a compelling short- and long-term vision for academic programmes and school culture.
- Set and sustain a consistent tone of high expectations, joy, and growth mindset across the school community.
- Lead key school rituals to model and embed positive culture among students, staff, and parents.
- Identify and respond swiftly to classroom and school culture or behaviour issues to protect effective learning environments.
- Facilitate instruction sessions and engagement activities for parents and external stakeholders.
- Follow up with the Teacher Lesson Design team on teacher feedback regarding lesson plans and instructional resources.
- Coordinate with the Operations Associate to ensure timely availability of learning materials and teaching resources.
- Serve as hiring manager for instructional staff recruitment processes.
- Coach teachers through structured, frequent classroom observations, detailed feedback sessions, and school walkthroughs.
- Supervise and strengthen professional development (PD) routines and activities across the school.
- Facilitate meaningful collaboration among teachers within and across grade levels and subject areas.
- Collect, analyse, interpret, and share internal and external school assessment data to drive strategic improvements in student academic performance.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and analysis of academic intervention programmes targeting diverse student subgroups — both remedial and enrichment.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Instruction & Learning and Senior Resident Teachers to ensure PD sessions are structured, engaging, and impactful.
- Liaise with the Dean of Instruction & Learning on timetabling and calendaring of all academic school events.
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education and possess a valid TSC (Teachers Service Commission) certification — you are legally authorised to teach in Kenya.
- Demonstrate at least 3 years of experience in a rigorous, high-expectations school environment, including at least one formal instructional leadership role such as department chair, grade-level lead, or teacher coach.
- Model what outstanding, inquiry-based teaching looks like — peers and supervisors consistently recognise you as a highly effective classroom practitioner.
- Coach other educators effectively: you have a demonstrable track record of improving teacher performance through structured feedback, observation cycles, and relationship-building.
- Think and act strategically while remaining exceptionally detail-oriented — you design big-picture plans and follow through on the small execution steps that make them work.
- Use student assessment data confidently to diagnose learning gaps, differentiate instruction, and measure the impact of interventions.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with teachers, school leaders, students, parents, and external partners.
- Thrive in a feedback-intensive culture — you actively seek and act on feedback, and you support others to do the same.
- A Master's degree in Education or Education Management is an added advantage.
