Reporting to the Senior Audit Supervisor, this role sits at the heart of the society's financial governance, ensuring robust internal controls and sound financial policies are consistently applied across the cooperative.

• Organise and lead audit teams across various assignments — from planning and execution through to direction and completion of each audit engagement.
• Supervise junior audit staff assigned to engagements, providing day-to-day guidance and conducting overall reviews of audit deliverables.
• Proactively engage with middle-level management and supervisors to gather relevant information, resolve emerging issues, and recommend improvements to business processes and controls.
• Identify, document, and communicate audit findings, offering practical, risk-mitigating recommendations aligned to the society's strategic objectives.
• Prepare detailed audit assignment plans and tailored audit programmes for each engagement.
• Review audit files and reports prepared by junior auditors and provide structured, constructive feedback.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of periodic audit work plans to support the annual internal audit schedule.
• Implement and monitor sound financial policies and internal control systems in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAS).

• Must hold a university degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
• Must be a Certified Public Accountant — CPA (K) — or hold an acceptable equivalent professional qualification.
• Must demonstrate hands-on ability to develop customised audit programmes and supervise a junior audit team through full audit cycles.
• Must have at least 5 years of progressive experience in an Internal Audit function at supervisory level, with a minimum of 3 years gained within a reputable audit firm.
• Must be able to communicate complex audit findings clearly — both verbally and in written reports — to management audiences of varying technical backgrounds.
• Must show proven leadership capability: setting team priorities, managing workloads, and maintaining audit quality under deadline pressure.
• Additional professional certifications such as CISA, CIA, or ACCA will be considered a strong added advantage.
• Must be a collaborative team player who can balance independent judgement with cooperative working across departments.

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, in line with Kenyan market rates for a Senior Internal Auditor in the FMCG/cooperative sector. An estimated monthly gross of KES 80,000 – 150,000 is anticipated, subject to qualifications and demonstrated experience. The society also offers staff benefits typical of established Kenyan cooperatives, including statutory deductions (NHIF/NSSF), and may extend access to cooperative member products and services. Ideal candidate: A CPA (K)-qualified audit professional with at least five years of internal audit experience — three of which were spent in an audit firm — who is confident leading small teams, writing clear audit reports, and engaging management on findings. You thrive in structured, process-driven environments and understand the unique governance dynamics of cooperatives or FMCG organisations.
