Data Analyst

Church World Service (CWS) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join its Resettlement Support Center (RSC) Africa team in Nairobi. This is a critical role within the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of statistical and operational reports that support refugee resettlement processing across sub-Saharan Africa.

Reporting to the Data Analytics & Visualization Supervisor, the Data Analyst plays a pivotal role in helping CWS RSC Africa 'tell the story' of resettlement through compelling data visualizations and insightful reporting. The analyst bridges raw data and strategic decision-making, enabling staff and key stakeholders — including the US Embassy, IOM, and Resettlement Agencies — to derive meaningful insights from complex refugee processing data.

• Prepare routine and ad hoc statistical reports for CWS RSC Africa staff and implementing partners including the US Embassy Refugee Coordinator, IOM, and Resettlement Agencies.
• Collaborate with the START and Case Quality teams to design, prepare, and automate regular quality control reports that ensure data accuracy and surface training needs.
• Develop productivity tracking reports to monitor RSC Africa operational performance and drive efficiency improvements.
• Partner with IT to ensure all reports operate within the current software environment and are published in a user-friendly format.
• Update automated and ad hoc reports in response to START database schema changes and policy or program updates.
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of START system updates and RSC Africa Standard Operating Procedures.
• Conduct quality checks on cases in coordination with the START and Case Quality team to ensure adherence to RSC, RPC standards, and USRAP processing guidelines.
• Support Programs staff with adequate reporting tools to meet RSC quality standards and comply with USRAP guidelines.
• Liaise with RPC staff on START data fixes and newly deployed system releases.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for team inquiries during the Data Analytics & Visualization Supervisor's absence.
• Actively manage and resolve work order tickets raised by Programs staff.
• Perform any other duties assigned to support and improve CWS Africa operations.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant paid experience in data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence — preferably within an NGO, INGO, or humanitarian setting.
• Demonstrated ability to design and automate statistical reports using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent data visualization platforms.
• Proven experience working with relational databases and performing data quality checks to ensure accuracy and integrity.
• Ability to translate complex datasets into clear, actionable visualizations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with case management or refugee processing systems (familiarity with START database is a strong advantage).
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify data anomalies, inconsistencies, and trends.
• Ability to manage multiple reporting priorities simultaneously within tight deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners such as IOM, RPC, and US Embassy officials.
• A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

The salary for this position is open and will be commensurate with experience and CWS compensation structures for national staff. Based on Kenyan market benchmarks for mid-to-senior NGO data roles in Nairobi, the estimated monthly compensation range is KES 150,000 – KES 280,000. This role is ideal for a seasoned data professional with a passion for humanitarian work and at least 5 years of hands-on experience in data analytics, reporting automation, and stakeholder engagement. You thrive in structured environments with compliance-heavy workflows and are comfortable navigating complex databases and refugee processing systems. You are equally comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

This role is NOT suitable for candidates with fewer than 5 years of relevant experience, those without demonstrated data visualization or reporting automation skills, or individuals without the ability to work within strict compliance and data quality frameworks.
