Department of Public Works Coordinator

Fluor Corporation, a globally recognised leader in engineering, procurement, construction, and government contracting, is seeking a skilled and proactive Department of Public Works (DPW) Coordinator to join its operations team in Nairobi, Kenya. This is a full-time, mid-to-senior level role embedded within Fluor's government services division, supporting U.S. government agency contracts including the Department of Defense and other federal clients.

In this role, you will serve as the central coordination point for all public works functions, ensuring that departmental services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contractual specifications. You will work closely with site management, engineering designers, and client representatives to drive operational excellence across public works programmes.

• Coordinate and schedule activities across departments within the public works function to ensure timely and quality service delivery.
• Report operational status of assigned public works organisations to site and programme management on a regular basis.
• Provide technical guidance and public works support to ongoing projects, interpreting applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
• Conduct inspections and audits of public works activities to verify conformance with contract requirements and quality standards.
• Develop and deliver instruction and training programmes for special processes and procedures within the public works team.
• Liaise and communicate effectively with company management, project teams, design professionals, and client representatives during programme establishment and implementation.
• Train, schedule, and supervise subordinate public works employees, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and security requirements as stipulated in applicable contracts and site policies.
• Perform any other public works-related duties as reasonably assigned by management.

• Demonstrate 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience coordinating public works, facilities management, or related engineering technical functions.
• Interpret and apply engineering codes, technical standards, and contract specifications in day-to-day service delivery.
• Plan, prioritise, and schedule work across multiple departments simultaneously while managing competing deadlines.
• Conduct structured inspections and prepare detailed audit reports that clearly identify non-conformances and corrective actions.
• Train and supervise technical staff, demonstrating the ability to transfer knowledge and build team capacity effectively.
• Communicate clearly and professionally — both verbally and in writing — with cross-functional teams, government clients, and senior management.
• Apply working knowledge of safety, health, and security protocols in a government or defence contracting environment.
• Hold at least a Diploma in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a closely related technical discipline.

Fluor Corporation offers a competitive, internationally benchmarked compensation package commensurate with experience. Estimated monthly gross salary ranges between KES 150,000 and KES 280,000 depending on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
