Job Description
SunCulture Kenya Ltd is looking for a commercially sharp and analytically driven Finance Strategy Associate to join its Finance team during an exciting and ambitious growth phase. This is a high-impact role that sits at the intersection of financial planning, capital raising, and strategic business development — offering the successful candidate direct exposure to executive decision-making and complex financing workstreams across multiple markets in Africa.
You will work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to build the financial infrastructure that supports SunCulture's mission of making solar-powered irrigation solutions truly affordable for millions of smallholder farmers. If you are energised by solving real problems in emerging markets and want to do meaningful work that scales, this role is for you.
- Build, maintain, and deploy financial models at both Group and Company level for budgeting, business planning, and capital raising purposes.
- Develop and manage short-term cash flow forecasts, unit economics analyses, pricing models, and elasticity of demand studies.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis into key unit economics components — including credit loss rates and after-sales performance — in collaboration with the FP&A team.
- Partner with the FP&A and Business Intelligence teams to shape data, develop forecasting models, and leverage IoT, payment, and operational data for strategic insights.
- Collaborate with the CFO to update and execute the company's financing strategy.
- Coordinate and track capital raising processes across equity, debt, grant, and technical assistance instruments.
- Lead the development of capital raise materials including financial models, investment memoranda, data rooms, market studies, and due diligence workstreams.
- Manage FX risk and other financing workstreams as required.
- Provide finance support to business development initiatives including new product pricing (carbon revenues, insurance, refurbished sales, customer marketplace), subsidiary formation in new markets, and existing product optimisation.
- Prepare internal and external financial reports for management, investors, and other key stakeholders.
- Must demonstrate at least 4 years of hands-on experience in financial modelling, FP&A, investment analysis, or strategic finance — ideally within a high-growth startup, private equity, development finance, or consulting environment.
- Must be able to independently build three-statement financial models, scenario analyses, and capital structure models from scratch without reliance on templates.
- Must be capable of translating complex financial data into clear, concise narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences including C-suite executives and investors.
- Must demonstrate experience coordinating fundraising or capital raising processes — including preparation of investor-facing materials and management of due diligence processes.
- Must be proficient in advanced Excel/Google Sheets; experience with FP&A software (e.g. Anaplan, Adaptive Insights) and BI tools is a strong advantage.
- Must show an ability to work cross-functionally, managing multiple stakeholders and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative field; a professional certification (CFA, ACCA, CPA) is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with emerging market dynamics, agri-finance, or impact investing is highly desirable.
SunCulture offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience. Based on Kenyan market benchmarks for a mid-to-senior finance strategy role, the estimated monthly gross salary range is KES 150,000 – 250,000. The company also provides benefits aligned with its mission-driven culture and growth trajectory.
- Competitive base salary
- Opportunity to work directly with C-suite leadership on high-stakes strategic projects
- Exposure to international investors and development finance institutions
- Career growth in a fast-scaling pan-African clean energy company
This role is ideal for a finance professional who has moved beyond traditional accounting and wants to play a strategic, commercially impactful role at the heart of a scaling business. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, highly numerate, and thrives in ambiguous, fast-moving environments. You should be comfortable owning deliverables end-to-end and engaging directly with investors and senior management.
Do not apply if you are looking for a purely compliance or bookkeeping role, if you require heavy day-to-day supervision, or if you are uncomfortable with the pace and ambiguity typical of high-growth startups operating in emerging markets.
- Visit the SunCulture Kenya careers page or the platform where this listing is posted.
- Submit your up-to-date CV and a brief cover letter (no more than one page) outlining your relevant experience in financial modelling and capital raising.
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis — early submission is strongly encouraged as no formal deadline has been specified.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment process.

By Thursday, you're building scenario analyses for a new product (carbon revenues) and coordinating a data room upload ahead of due diligence. Friday is spent synthesising insights into a CFO briefing note and fielding questions from the business development team about subsidiary formation costs in a new market.
