Pharmacist

ProRecruit Versaatech is seeking a qualified and experienced Pharmacist to join a busy hospital pharmacy team based in Mombasa. This is a full-time, onsite role ideal for a pharmacy professional who is passionate about patient safety, accurate medication management, and delivering excellent pharmaceutical care within a regulated clinical environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end dispensing process, patient counselling, inventory management, and ensuring full compliance with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board regulations and internal hospital policies. You will work closely with doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff to support safe and effective medication use across the facility.

• Review, verify, and dispense prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring patient safety at every step.
• Counsel patients on correct medication usage, dosage instructions, potential side effects, and drug interactions.
• Ensure proper storage, labelling, and handling of all medicines, including controlled substances and cold-chain products.
• Maintain robust inventory controls — monitor stock levels, track expiry dates, and initiate timely procurement requests to prevent stockouts.
• Ensure full compliance with Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) regulations, hospital pharmacy policies, and standard operating procedures.
• Serve as a drug information resource for doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff, providing evidence-based guidance on drug selection and interactions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date dispensing logs, patient medication records, and pharmacy reports.
• Identify, document, and report medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) through the appropriate hospital reporting channels.
• Participate in pharmacy audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous professional development activities.

• Must hold a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree from a recognised institution.
• Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and hold a valid annual practicing licence.
• Demonstrate at least 3 years of hands-on experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting, managing high prescription volumes.
• Able to identify and resolve prescription discrepancies, contraindications, and drug interaction issues independently.
• Proven ability to counsel diverse patient populations clearly and empathetically on medication regimens.
• Demonstrate strong inventory management skills — accurately tracking stock, identifying near-expiry items, and reducing wastage.
• Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
• Proficient in maintaining pharmacy documentation and familiar with electronic dispensing or pharmacy management systems.
• Display high levels of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality in handling patient information and controlled drugs.

The gross monthly salary for this position ranges from KSh 50,000 to KSh 100,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is full-time and onsite in Mombasa. Additional benefits may include standard hospital employee packages as applicable within the organisation's HR policy.
