Planning Engineer / Construction Project Manager

Excelon Limited is seeking a sharp, analytically driven Planning Engineer / Construction Project Manager to join its growing project controls team in Nairobi. • Develop, baseline, and maintain detailed programme schedules in Primavera P6 across multiple disciplines including civil, structural, MEP, and architectural packages.
• Perform critical path analysis, schedule compression studies (fast-tracking and crashing), and forensic delay analysis.
• Prepare Earned Value Management (EVM) reports including CPI/SPI tracking and traffic-light dashboard summaries for internal and international client audiences.
• Conduct site visits to independently assess physical progress against programme milestones and record factual observations.
• Manage contractors and consultants on a day-to-day basis, ensuring delivery commitments are met and issues are escalated appropriately.
• Administer contracts in line with applicable conditions of contract, including correspondence, notices, and variation management.
• Execute what-if scenario analyses covering procurement sequencing, resource levelling, and construction logistics planning.
• Create Money-Ready Plans (MRPs) integrating technical, cost, logistics, and quality planning components to bridge design intent and field execution.
• Produce technical memoranda and briefing documents aligned to international programme management standards.
• Operate ERPNext for project controls workflows and Google Workspace for document management, leveraging AI-augmented tools to improve productivity and reporting quality.

• Demonstrate working knowledge of construction scheduling logic — able to build a schedule from scratch, assign resources, and identify the critical path without prompting.
• Apply critical thinking and numerical reasoning to interpret project data, identify variances, and propose corrective actions.
• Use Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent scheduling software at a proficiency level sufficient to produce client-ready schedules; aptitude and willingness to rapidly upskill are equally valued.
• Construct and interrogate spreadsheet models for cost and progress tracking, including EVM metrics.
• Communicate technical project management issues clearly in writing and verbally to multi-disciplinary teams and international stakeholders.
• Manage people — both internal team members and external contractor representatives — with professionalism, clarity, and accountability.
• Navigate AI-assisted workflows confidently, integrating tools into real project deliverables rather than treating them as novelties.
• Hold a BSc or BEng in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Architecture from a recognised Kenyan university.
• Bring 0–3 years of relevant post-graduation experience; exceptional fresh graduates with demonstrated analytical ability are strongly encouraged to apply.

The gross monthly salary for this role ranges from KSh 50,000 to KSh 100,000, commensurate with demonstrated competence, aptitude test performance, and relevant experience. Candidates will be assessed rigorously and compensated accordingly.
