Cosmetology Trainer

Uriri Technical and Vocational College (UTVC), a growing technical and vocational education institution based in Migori County, is seeking a qualified and passionate Cosmetology Trainer to join its Hairdressing and Beauty department. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, competency-based training to learners enrolled in cosmetology, hairdressing, and beauty therapy programmes under the CDACC (Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council) framework.

This is a full-time position offering a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of skilled beauty professionals in Migori and the wider South Nyanza region. The ideal candidate combines hands-on industry expertise with a commitment to structured, curriculum-aligned instruction in a TVET environment.

• Deliver practical and theoretical training in hairdressing, beauty therapy, and cosmetology in line with CDACC competency-based curriculum standards.
• Prepare professional training documents including scheme of work, lesson plans, and course outlines.
• Develop robust formative and summative assessment tools aligned to CDACC requirements.
• Conduct ongoing formative assessments and end-of-unit summative evaluations to track learner progress.
• Supervise and guide trainees through individual and group practical projects.
• Maintain accurate records of trainee attendance, performance, and assessment outcomes.
• Support departmental research activities under the guidance of senior trainers.
• Ensure the salon training lab is maintained to professional and safety standards.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum review sessions, and institutional activities.
• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Principal.

• Must hold at least a Level 6 Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy or Cosmetology from a recognised institution — demonstrating both theoretical knowledge and practical competence across core beauty disciplines.
• Must hold a Pedagogy qualification from a recognised institution — demonstrating the ability to design lessons, manage a classroom, and differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
• Must be registered with TVETA (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority) as a certified trainer — evidencing compliance with Kenya's TVET regulatory standards.
• Ability to develop CDACC-aligned assessment tools and conduct both formative and summative assessments independently.
• Experience training in a TVET institution is an added advantage — candidates who can demonstrate practical delivery of CBT lessons will be preferred.
• Strong organisational skills — able to prepare and maintain professional training documents including lesson plans, progress records, and assessment registers.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills — able to engage, motivate, and mentor young learners from diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to professional development and staying current with industry trends in cosmetology and beauty therapy.

The salary for this position is open and will be discussed with shortlisted candidates based on qualifications and experience. Based on the TVET trainer market in Kenya, the estimated monthly remuneration ranges between KES 30,000 and KES 60,000.
