Job Description
Rainforest Alliance is seeking an experienced and driven Data Analyst Team Lead to join its Data Products function. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Products, you will spearhead the development of data-as-a-product solutions that serve producers, market partners, and consumers across global sustainability supply chains. This is a hybrid leadership and hands-on role — approximately 50% of your time will be dedicated to strategic initiatives and team leadership, while the remaining 50% will involve direct operational project work.
You will bring a sharp analytical mindset and a collaborative spirit to translate complex data needs into actionable, high-impact solutions. You will co-develop the product roadmap, prioritize team deliverables, and champion a culture of continuous improvement within the analytics function. Your work will directly contribute to Rainforest Alliance's mission of driving positive environmental and social impact for producer partners and the planet.
- Lead and manage a team of 3–4 data analysts, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development support.
- Ensure early identification and involvement in organizational initiatives that carry a data component so that requirements are captured from the outset.
- Stay current with emerging data reporting technologies and advocate for their adoption where appropriate.
- Elicit and translate data reporting needs from external clients and prospective customers into deliverable solutions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to surface data-driven insights that translate into actionable outcomes for external stakeholders.
- Partner with Product Managers to ensure all data requirements are embedded in tooling specifications and product development cycles.
- Work closely with the data engineering team to align roadmaps, manage dependencies, and co-design robust data engineering solutions.
- Continuously improve reporting capabilities across both analytics teams within the organization.
- Own and oversee the rollout of dashboards across the organization, supporting project-specific deployments in collaboration with the Implementation team.
- Drive internal stakeholder alignment throughout the customer rollout process.
- Periodically engage field colleagues and data-gathering stakeholders to proactively identify potential reporting biases and risks.
- Establish a standardized approach for gathering regional insights and integrating them into internal reports to support bottom-up strategy development.
- Identify and implement opportunities to integrate data efficiently to maximize engagement and ease of use across the organization.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis through at least 7 years of hands-on reporting and analysis experience.
- Manage and mentor junior analysts effectively, drawing on at least 1 year of formal management experience or equivalent coaching and training responsibilities.
- Build end-to-end data visualization solutions using tools such as Power BI and Tableau, from data modelling to dashboard deployment.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into clear, structured data requirements and deliver solutions with measurable outcomes.
- Communicate complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, compelling, and action-oriented manner.
- Identify and mitigate biases in data collection and reporting processes through proactive stakeholder engagement and methodological rigour.
- Prioritize and manage competing workstreams across a team, balancing strategic planning with day-to-day delivery.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, and field operations in a distributed, multicultural environment.
- Demonstrate fluency in English (written and spoken) at a professional level; additional languages are an asset.

Application Tips
Quantify your team leadership impact: mention the size of teams managed, specific improvements driven (e.g., reporting automation, dashboard adoption rates, team retention), and measurable outcomes from mentoring.
Highlight cross-functional collaboration: emphasize examples where you've worked directly with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to align on data solutions—this role is as much about stakeholder management as analysis.
Showcase hands-on technical depth: detail the specific tools, statistical methods, and types of analyses you've led (e.g., cohort analysis, predictive modeling, data quality frameworks)—this 50/50 hybrid role requires credible technical chops, not just management experience.
Connect to mission or impact: if you have any background in sustainability, development, or mission-driven organizations, foreground it. Even if not, express genuine interest in how data can drive social/environmental outcomes.

Honest Assessment
Green Flags
- Clear hybrid role structure: the posting honestly frames this as 50% leadership and 50% hands-on work, giving you technical growth alongside people management—rare and appealing for analytically-minded leaders.
- Competitive salary range (KES 200–350k/mo) for the role and market, with room for progression based on experience.
- Strong mission alignment: working on global sustainability supply chains offers genuine impact and purpose, which drives retention and engagement in roles like this.
- Cross-functional exposure: the role involves product partners, field teams, engineering, and external clients—excellent for expanding skills and network in a growth-stage analytics function.
Watch Out
- The posting is truncated mid-sentence ('Build' section appears incomplete), so you won't have full clarity on all expected skills or responsibilities—request the full job description before applying.
- The 50/50 split between leadership and hands-on work is ambitious; clarify with the hiring manager how this balance is managed in practice, as team leads often struggle with this division and it can lead to burnout or underdelivery in one area.
- No mention of tools, tech stack, or specific data platforms used—you should ask during the interview what BI tools, databases, and analytics infrastructure you'd be working with to assess technical alignment.
A Day in the Life
You start the week in a strategy meeting with the Senior Manager and Product Managers, prioritizing the next quarter's dashboard rollouts and fielding a new data requirement from a major external partner. Tuesday morning you're coaching one of your analysts on statistical methodology for a cohort analysis while simultaneously reviewing a data engineering spec for an upcoming integration. By Wednesday you're in the field (or on a call with) regional colleagues, uncovering reporting biases in how sustainability metrics are being captured on the ground—real insights that will shape internal reporting. The latter half of the week is split between hands-on analysis work (perhaps building an exploratory dashboard or validating a hypothesis) and implementation project management, ensuring a newly deployed tool is adopted smoothly across the organization. Throughout, you're advocating for new tools, mentoring your team, and translating complex data needs into clear, actionable deliverables.
