Director, Ellen G. White Centre

The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) is seeking a distinguished and spiritually grounded academic leader to serve as Director of the Ellen G. White Centre. This is a senior leadership role that combines scholarly excellence with a deep commitment to Adventist heritage, theology, and the prophetic ministry of Ellen G. White. The successful candidate will provide strategic, administrative, and intellectual direction to the Centre while simultaneously contributing to the academic life of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.

Based at the UEAB campus in Eldoret, Kenya, this position offers a rare opportunity to lead a regionally significant research and resource centre that serves students, faculty, church workers, and the broader Adventist community both locally and internationally. The Director will champion the study and application of the Spirit of Prophecy writings while fostering partnerships with church institutions and academic bodies worldwide.

• Provide overall leadership and administration of the Ellen G. White Centre in alignment with University policies and Seventh-day Adventist Church principles.
• Promote the study, understanding, and practical application of Ellen G. White's writings, ministry, and prophetic role across the University community.
• Coordinate and supervise research projects focused on Adventist history, theology, mission, and the Spirit of Prophecy.
• Plan and execute seminars, workshops, conferences, symposiums, and public lectures on Adventist heritage and related subjects.
• Develop and implement strategic plans, annual work plans, and budgets for the Centre's operations and growth.
• Manage, preserve, and expand archival materials, manuscripts, publications, and other Centre resources.
• Facilitate access to Ellen G. White resources for students, faculty, researchers, church workers, and community members.
• Build and sustain collaborative relationships with church conferences, unions, and Ellen G. White research centres locally and internationally.
• Engage in scholarly writing and publish research findings in peer-reviewed and Adventist academic outlets.
• Teach assigned undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the Department of Theology and Religious Studies.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and theses.
• Participate in curriculum development, academic advising, and departmental committee work.
• Mentor students and provide spiritual guidance consistent with the University's Christian mission.
• Actively seek grants, partnerships, and funding opportunities to support and expand Centre activities.
• Prepare and submit periodic performance and activity reports to the Vice Chancellor.
• Represent UEAB in relevant academic, ecclesiastical, and professional forums regionally and globally.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

• Hold an earned PhD in Theology, Religious Studies, Church History, Adventist Studies, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• Demonstrate a minimum of four (4) years of teaching experience at tertiary or university level, with a clear record of student engagement and academic mentorship.
• Show a verifiable publication record — peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, or monographs — in Adventist studies, theology, or church history.
• Exhibit academic leadership consistent with university promotion criteria, including participation in curriculum development and departmental governance.
• Demonstrate thorough, applied knowledge of the writings, ministry, and theological significance of Ellen G. White.
• Show ability to lead and manage archival collections, research programmes, and multi-stakeholder academic projects.
• Communicate effectively — in writing and verbally — across academic, ecclesiastical, and multicultural audiences.
• Manage budgets, write grant proposals, and cultivate institutional partnerships independently.
• Work effectively and harmoniously within a diverse, multicultural university environment.
• Training or demonstrated competency in archival management, manuscript handling, and academic research methodologies will be an added advantage.

UEAB offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with academic rank and experience, consistent with university salary scales for senior academic and administrative staff. The estimated monthly compensation for this role is in the range of KES 150,000 – 280,000, inclusive of applicable allowances. Additional benefits typical of Seventh-day Adventist educational institutions — including subsidised housing on or near campus, medical cover, and access to university facilities — may apply.
