Electrical Technician

Our client, a well-established hotel in the Machakos area, is looking for a skilled and dependable Electrical Technician to join their Engineering and Maintenance team. This role is central to ensuring the hotel's electrical infrastructure operates safely, efficiently, and without interruption — directly impacting guest comfort, staff safety, and overall operational excellence.

• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on all electrical systems and equipment across the property.
• Service and repair heavy-duty electrical lines connected to industrial ovens, commercial dishwashers, and walk-in freezers.
• Conduct regular inspections of emergency exit signs, hallway pathway lighting, and fire alarm electrical connections to ensure compliance and functionality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults in guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, and back-of-house facilities with minimal disruption.
• Maintain and service generators, lighting systems, control panels, and power distribution units.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency electrical breakdowns, prioritising guest safety and service continuity.
• Ensure all work is carried out in strict accordance with electrical safety standards and hotel policies.
• Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance logs, fault records, and equipment reports.
• Support and participate in energy conservation initiatives to optimise electrical resource usage across the property.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor.

• Hold a minimum Diploma in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution such as NITA, a National Polytechnic, or a TIVET institution.
• Demonstrate at least 3 years of hands-on experience working as an electrician, preferably in a hotel, hospitality, or commercial building environment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical faults independently, applying systematic troubleshooting approaches to minimise downtime.
• Read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to carry out accurate repairs and installations.
• Operate safely around high-voltage systems including three-phase power, generators, and industrial kitchen equipment.
• Communicate maintenance findings clearly and professionally in written reports and verbal briefings.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary maintenance team.
• Manage time and priorities efficiently to handle concurrent maintenance requests in a fast-paced environment.

The salary for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience within the Kenyan hospitality sector. Based on market benchmarks for a mid-level electrical technician with 3+ years of experience, the estimated monthly gross range is KES 60,000 – 90,000. The hotel also provides standard hospitality sector benefits including meals on duty, uniforms, and access to staff welfare programmes.
