Quarry Supervisor

Bamburi Cement Ltd, East Africa's leading cement manufacturer, is seeking an experienced and safety-driven Quarry Supervisor to oversee day-to-day quarry operations at their facility. This is a critical operational role responsible for ensuring that raw material extraction meets quality, production, and safety targets while fostering a high-performance team culture.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in mining or quarry operations, a proven track record in health, safety and environment (HSE) compliance, and the leadership capability to drive operational excellence across diverse site teams. This role sits at the intersection of people management, technical supervision, and continuous improvement.

• Build and lead a high-performing, safety-conscious quarry operations team through structured coaching, succession planning, and capability development.
• Embed a culture of continuous improvement, ethical conduct, and operational excellence across all supervised teams.
• Ensure full compliance with the company's HSE Policy, Rules, and Standards across all quarry activities.
• Conduct regular site inspections, equipment audits, and process reviews to proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
• Develop, review, and enforce Risk Assessments, Safe Work Instructions (SWIs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Facilitate regular toolbox talks, serious incident reviews, and awareness training to reinforce safety culture among workers and contractors.
• Ensure work permits are correctly issued, understood, and adhered to before commencement of any task.
• Monitor and evaluate critical safety controls in the area of operation, reporting gaps and implementing corrective actions promptly.
• Stop unsafe work immediately and apply consequence management procedures for non-compliance.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and promptly report, investigate, and document all HSE incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Define short-term mining plans to meet material uniformity and stockpile targets in line with production schedules.
• Implement quality control mechanisms in collaboration with process and quality teams to achieve material quality targets.
• Optimize resource utilization including equipment, labour, and materials to achieve operational efficiency and cost targets.

• Must hold a Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc/HND) in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related technical field.
• Must demonstrate at least 5–6 years of hands-on experience supervising quarry, mining, or heavy industrial operations.
• Must be able to develop and enforce HSE compliance frameworks including risk assessments, SWIs, and permit-to-work systems.
• Must be capable of leading and developing teams through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
• Must demonstrate the ability to interpret short-term mining plans and translate them into actionable daily operational targets.
• Must be proficient in quality control processes related to raw material extraction and blending.
• Must be able to conduct thorough incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Strong communication and reporting skills — able to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with relevant Kenyan mining regulations and occupational health and safety legislation is an added advantage.

Bamburi Cement Ltd offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and qualifications.
