As part of this programme, participants will rotate through a dynamic, high-acuity emergency environment, working alongside experienced emergency medicine specialists, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams. The programme is designed to build competency in the assessment, triage, resuscitation, and management of acute and critically ill patients across all age groups.

• Assess, triage, and prioritise patients presenting to the Accident & Emergency department based on clinical urgency and severity.
• Conduct thorough history taking, clinical examinations, and formulate differential diagnoses for emergency presentations.
• Initiate and carry out evidence-based management plans for acute medical, surgical, obstetric, and paediatric emergencies.
• Perform and assist with emergency procedures including IV access, airway management, wound care, and resuscitation protocols.
• Collaborate with senior physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure seamless, patient-centred care.
• Document patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner within the hospital's electronic medical records system.
• Participate in handovers, ward rounds, case discussions, and departmental teaching sessions.
• Adhere to AKUH clinical protocols, infection prevention guidelines, and patient safety standards at all times.
• Engage in continuous professional development, including simulation training and emergency medicine academic activities offered within the programme.
• Escalate complex or deteriorating cases appropriately to senior clinicians and specialists.

• Hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
• Demonstrate current, valid licensure with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) — must have completed internship prior to application.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and members of the clinical team in high-pressure situations.
• Apply clinical reasoning and critical thinking to rapidly evolving emergency presentations.
• Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt quickly to a fast-paced, shift-based environment.
