Head of Diagnostics & Ancillary Services

Tenwek Hospital, a leading faith-based teaching and referral hospital in Bomet County, Kenya, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Diagnostics & Ancillary Services to lead the diagnostic and ancillary functions of the AGC Tenwek Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC). This is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational management of a broad portfolio of services including Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Clinical Nutrition.

The successful candidate will drive service excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, manage budgets and human resources, and champion continuous quality improvement across all departments under their purview. • Provide strategic and operational leadership across all Diagnostics and Ancillary Services, ensuring seamless, high-quality service delivery aligned with CTC policies and national regulations.
• Champion quality assurance by developing, implementing, and maintaining robust quality control procedures and standards across all service units.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the Diagnostics and Ancillary Services team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous professional development.
• Monitor the functionality of diagnostic and ancillary equipment, proactively identifying issues and escalating to management to support informed procurement and maintenance decisions.
• Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, advocating for optimal resource allocation to sustain and improve service delivery.
• Ensure full regulatory compliance by overseeing timely collection, analysis, and submission of required data and statistics to relevant health authorities.
• Design and implement continuous improvement plans, driving innovation and optimizing workflows across diagnostic and ancillary services.
• Collaborate with other hospital departments and leadership teams to provide expertise and support the achievement of broader hospital objectives.
• Represent the CTC on hospital and external committees as required, articulating the needs and capabilities of Diagnostics and Ancillary Services.
• Oversee the development and implementation of unit work plans covering audit, integrity, quality management systems, and risk management initiatives.
• Manage staff performance cycles including appraisals, development plans, and succession planning within the unit.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by hospital leadership from time to time.

• Demonstrate proven ability to lead multidisciplinary healthcare teams across laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and therapy services in a hospital setting.
• Show track record of designing and enforcing quality assurance frameworks and standard operating procedures in a clinical or diagnostics environment.
• Exhibit strong financial acumen by developing and managing departmental budgets and making evidence-based resource allocation decisions.
• Apply regulatory knowledge to ensure all diagnostic and ancillary functions comply with Kenya's health regulatory requirements, including relevant Ministry of Health standards.
• Use data analysis and reporting skills to interpret operational metrics, generate insights, and drive performance improvements.
• Demonstrate effective stakeholder management by communicating complex operational needs to clinical, administrative, and executive teams.
• Leverage change management capabilities to implement continuous improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes.
• Apply problem-solving skills to resolve operational challenges efficiently while maintaining patient safety and service continuity.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience in healthcare management, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior or managerial role overseeing diagnostics or ancillary services.

Tenwek Hospital offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the seniority and scope of this role. Estimated monthly salary range is KES 200,000 – KES 350,000, subject to qualifications and experience. This role is best suited for a seasoned healthcare management professional with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management, Hospital Administration, or a relevant clinical field, and substantial experience managing diagnostic and ancillary services in a busy hospital. You are a strategic thinker who can balance clinical quality, operational efficiency, and people management in equal measure.
