Interventional Cardiologist

Tenwek Hospital, a leading faith-based referral hospital in Bomet County, Kenya, is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Interventional Cardiologist to join its cardiovascular care team. The Interventional Cardiologist will serve adult patients and, where appropriately trained, pediatric patients — playing a pivotal role in expanding access to high-quality cardiovascular services in an underserved but rapidly growing region of Kenya. • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions through outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and consultative services.
• Perform and interpret advanced cardiac procedures including right and left heart catheterization, coronary angiography, balloon angioplasty, coronary stenting, and structural heart interventions.
• Assess patients for interventional or surgical candidacy and coordinate appropriate referrals when necessary.
• Integrate imaging studies, laboratory findings, and diagnostic test results into individualized patient management plans.
• Provide emergency cardiovascular care, including active participation in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and acute cardiac intervention protocols.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, internists, family physicians, and allied health professionals.
• Support long-term cardiovascular management and palliative cardiac care for complex patients.
• Develop or maintain competency in cardiac critical care procedures such as central venous catheter placement and pericardiocentesis.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in line with hospital policy and professional standards.
• Mentor and train junior physicians, medical officers, nurses, and allied healthcare staff.
• Participate in BLS and ACLS training programs as facilitator or resource person.
• Lead and support cardiovascular research, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based clinical practice.
• Contribute to clinical governance, risk management, and accreditation activities.

• Must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Must possess a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine or an equivalent specialist qualification recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
• Must hold Specialist Recognition in Cardiology by the KMPDC and be fully licensed to practice in Kenya.
• Must have completed a Fellowship or equivalent advanced training in Cardiology from a recognized institution.
• Must have completed Fellowship or sub-specialty training in Interventional or Invasive Cardiology with demonstrated procedural competence.
• Must be able to independently perform coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), and structural heart procedures.
• Must demonstrate ability to manage acute cardiovascular emergencies including STEMI, cardiogenic shock, and cardiac tamponade.
• Must be capable of interpreting complex cardiac imaging modalities including echocardiography, cardiac CT, and catheterization findings.
• Must demonstrate strong communication skills for effective multidisciplinary collaboration and patient education.
• Experience mentoring postgraduate trainees or medical officers in a teaching hospital setting is highly desirable.
• Prior involvement in cardiovascular research or quality improvement projects is an added advantage.

Tenwek Hospital offers a competitive, mission-aligned compensation package commensurate with qualifications and experience. While the specific salary has not been publicly disclosed, Interventional Cardiologists in Kenya at this level of specialization typically earn between KES 400,000 and KES 700,000 per month, inclusive of allowances.
