HSE Officer

MSVL Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer to join its operations team in Nairobi. This is a critical role for a professional who is passionate about creating and sustaining safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplaces. You will serve as the primary custodian of HSE standards across the facility, ensuring that all activities align with Kenyan statutory requirements and international best practices.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in risk management, incident investigation, and employee safety training, and will work collaboratively with department heads to embed a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. • Ensure full compliance with all statutory HSE requirements including OSHA 2007, WIBA, and EMCA regulations, conducting regular inspections and compliance audits across all operational areas.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard identification exercises, implementing effective control measures to eliminate or minimize workplace risks.
• Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to identify root causes, prepare detailed investigation reports, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop, coordinate, and execute emergency response programs including fire drills, evacuation exercises, and business continuity planning.
• Design and deliver HSE training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns to strengthen safety culture and improve employee engagement at all levels.
• Support environmental compliance initiatives including waste management, pollution control, sustainability programs, and liaison with NEMA and other regulatory authorities.
• Maintain accurate HSE documentation, records, and reports including incident logs, audit reports, training registers, and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate with departmental managers to embed safe work practices into daily operations and standard operating procedures.
• Monitor HSE performance metrics and prepare periodic reports for management review and continuous improvement.

• Must hold a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of Kenyan HSE legislation — specifically OSHA 2007, WIBA, and EMCA — and be able to apply these frameworks in an operational setting.
• Must be able to independently plan and execute HSE audits, inspections, and risk assessments, documenting findings and driving corrective actions to closure.
• Must have proven experience investigating workplace incidents and near-misses, applying structured root cause analysis methodologies.
• Must be able to develop and deliver engaging HSE training content to diverse workforce groups, including frontline workers and supervisors.
• Must demonstrate strong written communication skills, producing clear incident reports, audit findings, and regulatory documentation.
• Candidates with additional training or certification in fire safety, emergency preparedness, or environmental management will have a distinct advantage.
• Must be able to liaise professionally with regulatory bodies such as DOSHS, NEMA, and insurance authorities.

The salary for this position is open and will be competitive based on the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience. Based on Kenyan market rates for HSE Officers at this level in Nairobi, compensation is expected to fall within the range of KES 80,000 to KES 150,000 per month. This role is best suited for a mid-level HSE professional with a minimum of three years of practical experience in a busy operational or industrial environment. You are detail-oriented, assertive in enforcing safety standards, and confident facilitating training across all staff levels. You understand Kenyan regulatory frameworks and can navigate interactions with government inspectors and compliance authorities. You are proactive — you identify hazards before incidents occur and influence behavioral change through training and engagement rather than enforcement alone.
