HSE Officer

MSVL Group is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to join a dynamic manufacturing operation based in Nairobi. This is a full-time, on-site role ideal for a compliance-driven professional who is passionate about building a strong safety culture, protecting workers, and ensuring environmental responsibility across all facility operations.

Reporting to senior management, the HSE Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for all occupational health, safety, and environmental matters. You will drive regulatory compliance, coordinate emergency preparedness programs, lead employee safety training, and champion continuous improvement in HSE performance across the organization.

• Conduct regular HSE inspections, risk assessments, and internal audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with statutory requirements under OSHA 2007, WIBA, and EMCA.
• Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses; document findings and implement corrective and preventive actions in a timely manner.
• Develop, coordinate, and execute emergency response programs including fire drills, evacuation exercises, and emergency preparedness planning.
• Deliver toolbox talks, induction training, and ongoing HSE awareness sessions to strengthen the safety culture and improve employee engagement across all departments.
• Monitor environmental compliance activities including waste management, effluent controls, and sustainability initiatives, and liaise with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and other regulatory bodies as required.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, prepare periodic compliance reports, and track key performance indicators to measure safety program effectiveness.
• Ensure all HSE documentation — including permits, inspection logs, incident reports, and training records — is up to date and readily accessible during audits or regulatory visits.
• Advise management and employees on safe work practices, PPE requirements, and changes in relevant legislation or regulatory guidance.

• Able to conduct structured risk assessments and hazard identification exercises across manufacturing or industrial environments using recognized frameworks.
• Proficient in applying Kenyan HSE legislation including OSHA 2007, the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), and the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act (EMCA).
• Capable of leading incident investigations end-to-end — from scene assessment and root cause analysis to corrective action implementation and follow-up verification.
• Experienced in planning and facilitating HSE training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety inductions for diverse worker groups.
• Able to coordinate emergency drills and evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response plans.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to produce clear, accurate HSE reports, audit findings, and compliance documentation for management and regulators.
• 1–4 years of hands-on HSE experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Additional certifications in fire safety, emergency preparedness, or environmental management are a distinct advantage.

The salary for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience, estimated in the range of KES 60,000 – 100,000 per month based on Kenyan market benchmarks for mid-level HSE roles in manufacturing.
