Honest Assessment
Green Flags

Watch Out
- Job description is incomplete (truncated at 'proficient in hospital information systems and el...')—clarify full expectations and any missing responsibilities before committing.
- No mention of benefits, contract duration, notice period, or shift patterns—typical for locum roles, but confirm scheduling flexibility and whether weekend/on-call expectations exist.
- Salary range is quite broad (KES 60–100k) with no clarity on what determines placement within it—ask whether experience, certifications, or contract length drive the variation.
A Day in the Life
Your week at AAR Hospital typically starts with a backlog of outpatient echo requests; you perform 8–12 scans daily (2D, Doppler, stress echoes), positioning patients, acquiring images, and doing provisional reviews before handing off to the attending cardiologist for final interpretation. You spend time setting up or analysing Holter recordings, writing detailed reports, and troubleshooting the ultrasound system when it acts up—flagging maintenance needs to biomedical engineering. You might assist during a TEE procedure mid-week, coordinating with the cardiologist on patient prep and equipment handling, and you end the week reviewing turnaround times, updating the batch register, and ensuring all echo and Holter reports have been dispatched to referring physicians or patients on schedule.
