Locum Echocardiographer

AAR Hospital, a 140-bed Level 5 private referral hospital nestled along Kiambu Road adjacent to the serene Karura Forest, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Locum Echocardiographer to join its Cardiology team on a contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified cardiology technologist to contribute meaningfully to the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular conditions in a well-equipped, patient-centred environment.

Reporting to the Head of the Cardiology Department and working closely with in-house Cardiologists, the successful candidate will carry out a range of echocardiographic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients, ensuring accurate imaging, timely reporting, and optimal equipment performance. • Perform all types of Echocardiograms including 2D, Doppler, and stress echocardiography for both inpatients and outpatients.
• Set up, apply, and analyse 24-hour Holter monitor recordings and prepare comprehensive reports for Physician review.
• Write detailed Echocardiogram reports to be countersigned by the attending Cardiologist.
• Assist Cardiologists during Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) procedures, ensuring patient safety and procedural accuracy.
• Ensure timely dispatch of Echo and Holter Monitor reports to patients or referring physicians within agreed turnaround times.
• Develop echocardiographic images and conduct initial provisional reviews prior to Cardiologist interpretation.
• Perform and document quality control procedures to maintain ECHO equipment at optimal operational standards.
• Report any equipment malfunctions promptly to the Head of Department and collaborate with Biomedical Engineers to facilitate timely repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all tests performed through correct data entry on relevant hospital systems, report forms, and batch registers.

• Must be able to independently perform standard and advanced echocardiographic scans with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate proficiency in applying and interpreting Holter monitor data in a clinical setting.
• Ability to write clear, concise, and clinically accurate echocardiogram reports suitable for Cardiologist countersignature.
• Skilled in assisting Cardiologists during TEE procedures, including patient preparation and equipment handling.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of radiation and cardiac imaging safety protocols.
• Apply quality management principles to ensure equipment performance and patient safety standards are consistently met.
• Exhibit strong patient care skills including effective communication, empathy, and patient positioning for optimal imaging outcomes.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities when interpreting ambiguous imaging results or managing equipment issues.
• Proficient in hospital information systems and electronic data entry for accurate record-keeping.

The remuneration for this locum/contract position is commensurate with experience and qualifications, estimated in the range of KES 60,000 – 100,000 per month based on prevailing Kenyan market rates for cardiology technologists at this level. This role is ideal for a certified Cardiology Technologist with hands-on echocardiography experience who is looking for a rewarding short-term clinical engagement in a reputable private hospital.
