Part-Time TVET Trainer – Counselling Psychology

Amref International University (AMIU), through its TVET Directorate, is seeking a qualified and passionate part-time TVET Trainer specialising in Counselling Psychology. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, conducting assessments, and mentoring students in line with TVET Authority (TVETA) standards and the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) requirements. This role demands a practitioner who is both academically grounded and practically experienced in Counselling Psychology.

• Instruct trainees in assigned Counselling Psychology course units in strict adherence to the relevant curriculum and occupational standards.
• Plan, conduct, and assess practical sessions in assigned course units to ensure effective competency acquisition.
• Develop comprehensive schemes of work, lesson plans, and provide relevant lecture notes to trainees.
• Prepare internal examinations, conduct validation exercises, and oversee exam processing within the stipulated schedule.
• Carry out continuous assessments and maintain accurate, up-to-date trainee performance records.
• Supervise and assess trainees during practicals and within the course area.
• Mark, grade, and enter results into the university's ERP system for all assigned units in a timely manner.
• Supervise trainees on industrial attachment and provide structured feedback.
• Prepare trainees for external examinations by imparting practical technical skills required for effective competency demonstration.
• Maintain appropriate teaching and assessment records and make them available to the TVET Directorate, CDACC, or any other relevant regulatory body as required.
• Attend all scheduled class contact hours and adhere to the university's timetable.
• Provide mentorship and pastoral guidance to trainees to support their professional and personal development.
• Conduct examination invigilation for both internal and external assessments.
• Monitor and report on trainee class attendance in accordance with institutional policies.
• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Director.

• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Counselling Psychology principles and their application in a TVET training environment.
• Deliver engaging, competency-based lessons that align with CDACC occupational standards and curriculum frameworks.
• Apply sound pedagogical techniques to facilitate effective adult learning and skills development.
• Design, administer, and evaluate both formative and summative assessments fairly and accurately.
• Utilise digital tools and ERP systems to record and manage student academic data.
• Supervise and guide students during industrial attachment placements with professionalism and structure.
• Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and regulatory bodies in both written and verbal formats.
• Maintain current registration and licensure with the Counsellors and Psychologists Board of Kenya, demonstrating ethical practice standards.
• At least 2 years of relevant teaching or training experience within a TVET institution.
• Hold a Certificate in Pedagogy or be registered as a trainer with TVETA.

This is a part-time position and remuneration will be offered on a sessional or hourly basis, commensurate with qualifications and experience. While a specific figure has not been published, part-time TVET lecturers at accredited Kenyan universities typically earn between KES 50,000 and KES 100,000 per month depending on the number of units taught.
