Part-Time TVET Trainer – Social Work & Community Development

Amref International University (AMIU), through its TVET Directorate, is seeking a qualified and passionate Part-Time TVET Trainer in Social Work and Community Development. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute to the development of the next generation of social work practitioners by delivering high-quality, competency-based training aligned to Kenya's TVET curriculum and occupational standards.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach, assess, and mentor students enrolled in relevant TVET programmes, ensuring they acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective performance in the field. The role demands flexibility, professional dedication, and a genuine commitment to student success and industry relevance.

• Deliver instruction in assigned Social Work course units in strict adherence to the curriculum and occupational standards set by TVET CDACC.
• Plan, conduct, and assess practical sessions for all assigned course units to reinforce competency acquisition.
• Develop and maintain up-to-date schemes of work, lesson plans, and comprehensive lecture notes.
• Prepare internal examination papers, conduct validation exercises, and adhere to the exam preparation and processing schedule.
• Carry out continuous assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
• Supervise and assess trainees in their respective course areas, ensuring standards are met.
• Mark and grade student work, and accurately enter grades into the university's ERP system.
• Supervise trainees during industrial attachment placements and provide guidance throughout the process.
• Prepare trainees for external examinations by equipping them with the practical technical skills required for competency demonstration.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and make them available as required by the Directorate, TVET CDACC, or any other relevant regulatory body.
• Attend all assigned class contact hours consistently and punctually.
• Mentor students on academic, professional, and career development matters.
• Invigilate both internal and external examinations as required.
• Monitor and maintain class attendance records.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or Director.

• Ability to design and deliver engaging, competency-based lessons in Social Work and Community Development at TVET level.
• Demonstrated ability to assess student competencies both formatively and summatively in line with TVET CDACC standards.
• Proficiency in developing curriculum documents including schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials.
• Experience supervising students on industrial attachment and providing structured mentorship.
• Ability to prepare learners effectively for national TVET examinations through targeted practical training.
• Competence in using digital tools and ERP systems for grade entry and record management.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective student engagement and mentorship.
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching or training experience in a TVET institution.
• At least 2 years of hands-on industry experience in Social Work or Community Development (added advantage).
• Must hold a Certificate in Pedagogy or be duly registered by TVETA as a trainer.

This is a part-time, sessional engagement. Remuneration is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, benchmarked against prevailing TVET part-time trainer rates in Kenya. Estimated sessional earnings range between KES 50,000 and KES 80,000 per month depending on the number of teaching hours assigned. Ideal Candidate: You are a Social Work professional or educator with a genuine passion for competency-based training. You hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Community Development, possess hands-on field experience, and are registered or certifiable as a TVET trainer. You thrive in a structured academic environment, are comfortable with curriculum documentation, and are student-centred in your approach.
