Senior Electrical Systems Specialist

Miale Solar Inventions is seeking an experienced and technically astute Senior Electrical Systems Specialist to take the lead in power quality management, electrical system optimization, and the integration of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This is a senior technical role at the heart of the company's growing renewable energy portfolio, demanding deep expertise in electrical power systems and a passion for delivering reliable, efficient, and high-quality energy solutions across Kenya.

The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert supporting project execution from design through commissioning, driving the development of standardized electrical solutions, and building internal engineering capability through mentorship and knowledge transfer. • Conduct comprehensive power quality analysis and troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues related to power factor, harmonics, voltage fluctuations, and system instability.
• Assess and optimize Power Factor Correction (PFC) systems and capacitor banks to prevent overcompensation and minimize utility penalties.
• Design and review electrical distribution boards, single-line diagrams, and protection schemes for solar PV and BESS projects.
• Lead electrical commissioning activities and provide hands-on support to installation teams during system energization and fault diagnosis.
• Configure and optimize inverter and BESS control settings to ensure efficient operation and seamless grid interaction.
• Perform protection coordination studies and verify the correct operation of all electrical protection devices.
• Develop and standardize electrical panel designs and oversee fabrication activities to ensure quality and consistency across projects.
• Investigate and resolve harmonic distortion, voltage imbalance, and other power quality challenges affecting system performance.
• Provide technical guidance to project teams throughout the design, installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
• Develop and maintain internal engineering standards, procedures, and best practices for all electrical systems.
• Train and mentor electrical technicians and junior engineers to enhance internal technical capability and support career growth.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, project management, operations, and service teams to deliver high-quality energy solutions.
• Ensure full compliance with electrical standards, safety requirements, utility regulations, and industry best practices at all times.

• Must be able to independently lead power quality studies and deliver actionable recommendations for complex electrical systems.
• Must demonstrate hands-on experience integrating Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in commercial or industrial settings.
• Must be proficient in designing electrical distribution boards, single-line diagrams, and protection coordination schemes.
• Must be capable of configuring inverters and BESS control systems and troubleshooting operational faults with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to use electrical design and analysis software such as AutoCAD Electrical to produce professional-grade deliverables.
• Must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering; candidates with an HND and substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
• Must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electrical power systems, industrial installations, renewable energy, or related fields.
• Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), KETRB, or an equivalent professional body is a strong added advantage.
• Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Must demonstrate the ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staff effectively.

Miale Solar Inventions offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the seniority and technical depth of this role. The estimated monthly salary range for this position is KES 180,000 – KES 280,000, benchmarked against the Kenyan renewable energy and electrical engineering market. Final compensation will reflect the candidate's qualifications, depth of experience, and professional registration status. Additional benefits are offered as part of the overall package.
