Job Description

Role Overview

Co-operative Bank is seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resource and Administration Officer to support one of its SACCO entities. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role sits at the intersection of strategic HR support and day-to-day administrative operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building a high-performing, engaged workforce while ensuring the SACCO remains compliant with Kenyan labour laws and HR best practices.

This is a full-time, Nairobi-based opportunity ideal for an HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced cooperative financial environment and can independently manage the full HR lifecycle — from workforce planning and recruitment through to employee relations, training coordination, and office administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of HR work plans, budgets, and strategic HR initiatives aligned to the SACCO's objectives.
  • Coordinate periodic review and implementation of HR policies, procedures, manuals, and compliance guidelines.
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment, selection, onboarding, and probation monitoring processes.
  • Maintain accurate talent databases, staffing records, and establishment data.
  • Drive implementation of the SACCO's performance management framework, including appraisals and performance improvement plans.
  • Coordinate training needs assessments, staff development programmes, and evaluate effectiveness of learning interventions.
  • Promote positive employee relations, manage conflict resolution processes, and coordinate staff welfare and engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and secure maintenance of employee records and HR information systems.
  • Oversee efficient administration of office facilities, services, and support functions.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory requirements including NSSF, NHIF, PAYE, and other labour obligations.
  • Provide HR advisory and data-driven recommendations to support senior management decision-making.
  • Track emerging labour market trends and recommend proactive interventions to management.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field; CHRP-K certification is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrate at least 3–5 years of progressive HR and administration experience, preferably within a SACCO, cooperative, microfinance, or financial services environment.
  • Proven ability to manage the full recruitment cycle — from job advertising and shortlisting to offer negotiation and onboarding.
  • Hands-on experience implementing performance management systems and coordinating staff appraisal cycles.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Kenyan employment law, including the Employment Act 2007, Labour Relations Act, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrate experience facilitating training needs assessments and coordinating L&D programmes with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong employee relations skills with the ability to handle grievances, disciplinary processes, and workplace conflict with professionalism and impartiality.
  • Proficiency in HR information systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for HR analytics and reporting.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Salary & Benefits

The salary for this position is open and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Based on Kenyan market benchmarks for mid-level HR Officer roles within the financial/cooperative sector, the estimated monthly package ranges from KES 80,000 to KES 130,000. Co-operative Bank is known for offering competitive remuneration packages within the cooperative banking sector.

Who Should Apply

Ideal candidate: A self-driven HR generalist with solid experience in a SACCO or financial institution who can work independently, manage multiple HR functions simultaneously, and add strategic value to a growing cooperative. You are detail-oriented, people-focused, and deeply familiar with Kenya's labour law landscape.

Do not apply if: You have less than 3 years of HR experience, have no exposure to the cooperative or financial services sector, or are looking for a purely administrative role without HR responsibilities. Candidates without a relevant degree or active HR professional registration may not be considered.

How to Apply
  • Prepare an updated CV and a cover letter clearly outlining your suitability for the role.
  • Ensure your application highlights relevant HR and SACCO/financial sector experience.
  • Submit your application through the Co-operative Bank careers portal or the advertised application channel before the deadline.
  • Applications must be submitted by 5th July 2026. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
