Job Description
Unga Group is seeking a commercially driven and strategically minded Team Lead – Animal Health Products to spearhead revenue and volume growth across its animal health product portfolio. This is a senior, P&L-accountable role that sits at the intersection of commercial management, regulatory compliance, supply chain coordination, and field team leadership. The successful candidate will own the full product lifecycle — from demand forecasting and supplier management to trade development and promotional campaigns — while ensuring full compliance with Kenya's veterinary regulatory framework.
This role offers a compelling opportunity for a seasoned animal health professional to shape category strategy, influence trade partnerships, and lead a high-performing team of Product Promoters in a well-established Kenyan agribusiness brand.
- Drive a minimum 25% revenue and volume growth target; set, cascade, and review regional sales targets on a regular cadence.
- Manage the full animal health product portfolio including product mix, lifecycle planning, and profitability optimisation.
- Lead new product launches end-to-end: seeding strategies, field training, and ATL/BTL promotional campaigns.
- Develop and maintain weekly and monthly price matrices; manage trade spend and evaluate ROI on promotions.
- Support annual budget preparation for the animal health category.
- Lead market intelligence reporting covering competitor activity, pricing trends, and customer sentiment.
- Develop accurate demand forecasts targeting ≥85% accuracy and provide regular updates to key stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with import partners and toll packers; scout, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers.
- Maintain supplier performance scorecards and develop business continuity plans.
- Collaborate with General Trade RSMs and their teams to align on trade development strategies.
- Partner with the Marketing Manager to design and execute customer growth, loyalty, and seeding programmes.
- Conduct market surveys and report on industry trends to inform leadership on strategic investment corridors.
- Build and manage key account relationships across agrovets, veterinary clinics, cooperatives, and county institutions.
- Ensure full compliance with VMD, Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB), PCPB, and all other relevant regulatory bodies; serve as Officer in Charge for drug stores.
- Champion product registration processes, importation documentation, and zero critical non-conformances.
- Lead, coach, and performance-manage Product Promoters — define KPIs, conduct reviews, and plan field deployment schedules for maximum customer coverage.
- Must hold a BVM or an animal health-related degree and be registered or registerable with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
- Must demonstrate at least 5 years of experience in the animal health industry, with 2–3 years in a mid-management role carrying P&L accountability.
- Must be able to apply working knowledge of VMD, KVB, and PCPB regulatory frameworks in day-to-day portfolio and compliance management.
- Must be able to set commercial targets and demonstrate a proven track record of delivering against revenue and volume goals.
- Must be able to build and present demand forecasts, price matrices, and market intelligence reports to senior leadership.
- Must be able to lead, coach, and develop a field-based promoter team — setting KPIs, conducting performance reviews, and driving accountability.
- Must hold a valid driving licence with more than 2 years of active driving experience and be willing to travel for field visits.
- Should be able to manage supplier relationships and negotiate with import partners and toll packers effectively.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and regulatory teams to deliver aligned category outcomes.
The salary for this role is not explicitly stated in the posting. Based on Kenyan market benchmarks for a senior-level animal health commercial role with P&L accountability at a listed agribusiness group, the estimated monthly gross salary range is KES 180,000 – KES 280,000. Additional benefits may include a performance bonus and a company vehicle or travel allowance given the field-facing nature of the role.
