Job Description
Solar Panda is a fast-growing solar energy company committed to bringing affordable, reliable off-grid power solutions to rural Kenyan households. As part of our continued expansion, we are looking for a driven and people-oriented Assistant Field Sales Manager (AFSM) to be based in Mpeketoni. This is a field-intensive role that places you at the heart of our grassroots sales operations.
Reporting directly to the Field Sales Manager, the AFSM will play a critical role in building, coaching and sustaining a high-performing team of commission-based Field Agents. If you thrive in rural environments, enjoy mentoring others, and are passionate about delivering clean energy solutions to underserved communities, this role is a strong fit for you.
- Support the Field Sales Manager in meeting and exceeding area-level sales targets consistently.
- Assist in identifying, recruiting and onboarding new Field Sales Agents across the assigned territory.
- Conduct structured training sessions for new and existing agents, ensuring they are equipped with product knowledge, sales techniques and company policies.
- Accompany Field Agents on customer visits and market activations, providing real-time coaching and constructive performance feedback.
- Monitor local market dynamics including customer purchasing behaviour, competitor activity and product demand, and relay timely intelligence to management.
- Identify untapped sales opportunities and contribute actionable ideas to lead generation strategies.
- Collaborate with the broader sales team to design and roll out localised sales initiatives and promotional campaigns.
- Track individual agent performance metrics and escalate underperformance concerns to the Field Sales Manager with recommended interventions.
- Ensure all field activities comply with Solar Panda's operational guidelines and ethical standards.
- Demonstrate at least 2 years of hands-on experience in field sales, microfinance or a closely related rural commercial role.
- Proven ability to coach, motivate and hold a distributed team accountable to targets.
- Ability to plan weekly and monthly field schedules and adjust strategies based on performance data.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills — must be able to build trust with agents and rural customers alike.
- Capacity to work independently in the field with minimal supervision while maintaining reporting discipline.
- Ability to identify problems quickly on the ground and implement practical, timely solutions.
- Comfortable using basic digital tools (mobile apps, spreadsheets) for reporting and tracking.
- Fluency in Swahili is essential; knowledge of local dialects spoken in the Mpeketoni area is an added advantage.
Solar Panda offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience. The estimated monthly salary range for this role is KES 45,000 – KES 80,000, inclusive of base pay and performance-linked incentives. Field allowances and travel support are provided to cover day-to-day operational costs in the field.
Ideal candidates are self-starters with a genuine passion for rural sales, a track record in field-based roles, and the patience and discipline to develop frontline agents. Candidates who have previously worked in solar, FMCG, microfinance or agri-business field roles in coastal or rural Kenya are particularly encouraged to apply.
Do not apply if you are looking for a desk-based or purely urban role, if you are uncomfortable with frequent travel in rural areas, or if you have no prior experience managing or supporting a sales team in any capacity.
Interested and qualified candidates should submit their application through the Solar Panda careers portal or the job platform where this listing is posted. Your application should include an updated CV and a brief cover letter highlighting your relevant field sales experience and why you are suited for the Mpeketoni territory. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further assessment. Solar Panda is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from all qualified individuals regardless of gender, background or disability.
