Chief Accountant

FourSum is seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, and results-driven Chief Accountant to lead and oversee the organization's full accounting operations from its Baba Dogo, Nairobi offices. This is a senior leadership role that demands both technical accounting depth and strong people management capabilities, as you will be responsible for driving financial accuracy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing meaningfully to strategic business decisions.

You will work closely with senior management to provide financial insights that guide business planning, while simultaneously maintaining robust internal controls and leading a high-performing finance team. • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records at all times.
• Prepare, review, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to management and relevant stakeholders.
• Manage general ledger activities including reconciliations, journals, and detailed financial schedules.
• Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in collaboration with departmental heads.
• Monitor and manage cash flow, banking operations, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions.
• Ensure full compliance with all statutory obligations including PAYE, VAT, NSSF, NHIF, withholding tax, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate and facilitate both internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely resolution of all audit findings and recommendations.
• Identify gaps in financial processes and proactively strengthen internal controls and accounting systems.
• Deliver financial analysis, insights, and actionable recommendations to support management decision-making.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members, fostering a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• Demonstrate at least 7 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including a minimum of 3 years in a senior or supervisory accounting role.
• Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a closely related discipline, alongside a professional qualification — CPA(K), ACCA, or equivalent is mandatory.
• Apply deep knowledge of IFRS, Kenyan tax regulations, and sound financial management principles in day-to-day operations.
• Operate proficiently in at least one major accounting software platform such as QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, Oracle, or similar enterprise systems.
• Produce accurate, insightful financial reports and manage complex reconciliations without supervision.
• Lead and manage statutory compliance processes end-to-end, including preparation and filing of returns.
• Use advanced Excel skills to build financial models, conduct variance analysis, and support business forecasting.
• Communicate financial findings clearly and confidently to both finance and non-finance audiences at management level.
• Demonstrate high levels of integrity, professional discretion, and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.

The gross monthly salary for this role is KSh 130,000. This is a competitive package reflective of the seniority and scope of the position within the Nairobi market.

This role is best suited for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a hands-on leadership environment, is comfortable owning both operational accounting and strategic financial planning, and can command the respect of a finance team through expertise and integrity. You should have a proven track record in senior accounting roles within a busy commercial or manufacturing environment and be confident dealing with auditors, regulators, and executive management alike.
