Honest Assessment

Green Flags

  • Clear, detailed job description with specific responsibilities and measurable outputs—shows FourSum has thought through the role and expectations.
  • Explicit focus on team leadership and people development, indicating a culture that values mentoring and career growth, not just technical execution.
  • Emphasis on strategic contribution to business planning and financial insights, not just compliance and record-keeping—this role has genuine influence on decision-making.
  • Based in central Nairobi (Baba Dogo), offering established infrastructure and no relocation burden for local candidates.

Watch Out

  • The salary is fixed at exactly KES 130,000 with no range—this is unusually low for a Chief Accountant role in Nairobi and may indicate limited budget flexibility or a smaller organization than the seniority level suggests.
  • The job description is truncated at the end (cuts off mid-sentence at 'advanced Excel skills'), suggesting the posting may be incomplete or hastily prepared—clarify full scope and benefits before applying.

A Day in the Life

☀️

Your week at FourSum typically begins with a Monday morning review of cash position and banking reconciliations to assess liquidity for the week ahead. Mid-week involves coordinating with departmental heads on budget vs. actual performance, reviewing team reconciliations, and fielding questions from senior management on financial trends. You spend time mentoring junior accountants on complex journal entries or compliance requirements, and at least one day is dedicated to deep-dive analysis—perhaps preparing a variance report for board review or identifying process gaps. If it's month-end or quarter-end, you're finalizing financial statements, ensuring all statutory returns are audit-ready, and presenting findings to management; otherwise, you're strengthening internal controls, planning the next budgeting cycle, or preparing for an upcoming audit.
