We are seeking a driven and experienced Field Sales Manager to lead sales operations at our Madogo shop. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be the engine behind local sales growth, directly responsible for building and managing a high-performing team of commission-based field sales agents.
Reporting directly to the Area Sales Manager, this full-time position offers a competitive base salary plus commission structure. The ideal candidate is a proven sales leader who thrives in rural environments, understands grassroots marketing, and has a track record of hitting targets through motivated, well-managed teams.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and continuously mentor a team of commission-based field sales agents to ensure consistent performance and professional growth.
- Develop and execute clear, actionable sales strategies and lead-generation initiatives tailored to the local market.
- Support sales agents in customer-facing pitches to community groups such as chamas, cooperatives, and church groups.
- Conduct daily monitoring of field agent activity, tracking progress against targets and providing timely coaching and support where performance gaps exist.
- Prepare and submit regular sales performance reports to the Area Sales Manager, highlighting wins, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
- Identify training needs within the sales team and coordinate with the HR Team to schedule relevant capacity-building programs.
- Liaise with the local shop Administrator to ensure field agents have adequate product stock available on a timely basis to avoid missed sales opportunities.
- Monitor local market trends including customer behaviour shifts and competitor activities, sharing actionable insights with management regularly.
- Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in field sales or microfinance, with a verifiable record of consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets.
- Show proven ability to recruit, manage, and retain commission-based sales agents in a rural or peri-urban setting.
- Apply strong leadership and people management skills to motivate diverse teams toward shared goals under pressure.
- Use strategic thinking to design territory-level sales plans, segment customer groups, and allocate team resources effectively.
- Navigate rural markets confidently, with demonstrated experience working in remote or underserved areas of Kenya.
- Communicate clearly and persuasively in both English and Swahili; knowledge of local dialects is an added advantage.
- Leverage data and field observations to provide management with timely, relevant market intelligence.
- Operate with a high degree of self-motivation, integrity, and accountability in a decentralised field environment.
This role offers a competitive monthly base salary in the range of KES 60,000 – 120,000, complemented by a performance-based commission structure tied to team and shop sales targets. Actual compensation will reflect experience and demonstrated capability. Solar Panda is committed to rewarding managers who build strong teams and grow market penetration in their territories.
- Base salary plus commission
- Opportunities for career advancement within a growing solar company
- Ongoing professional training and development support
This role is ideal for a seasoned sales professional who has grown through the ranks in field sales, FMCG, microfinance, or renewable energy — and who is comfortable living and working in a rural Kenyan setting. You should be a natural leader who gets energy from coaching others, building community relationships, and closing deals. You understand the rural Kenyan customer deeply and know how to communicate value in simple, compelling terms.
Please do not apply if you have no experience managing field-based or commission-only sales teams, if you are unwilling to be based in Madogo or similar rural locations, or if you have fewer than 5 years of relevant sales experience. This is not an entry-level or office-based position.

Honest Assessment
Green Flags
- Clear, ambitious role with tangible responsibilities: this is a substantive leadership position, not a generic sales job, with direct line to Area Sales Manager and measurable accountability.
- High-growth, impact-driven company in clean energy: Solar Panda operates in Kenya's fastest-expanding renewable energy sector, offering both job security and career trajectory.
- Transparent expectations: the job description details specific skills, experience thresholds, and daily activities—no vagueness about what success looks like.
- Commission-based upside: top performers can significantly exceed base salary, especially in a high-potential rural market like Madogo where competition for solar may be limited.
Watch Out
- Salary structure incomplete: posting states 'competitive monthly base salary in t' and cuts off—clarify exact base vs. commission split before applying.
- No mention of benefits (health insurance, transport allowance, bonuses): given the rural, high-activity nature, confirm what non-salary support is provided.
- Decentralised environment with 'daily monitoring' of agents may imply limited managerial autonomy or micro-management culture—ask about management style and decision-making delegation during interview.
A Day in the Life
Your week at Solar Panda Madogo typically starts with a 7 a.m. field briefing where you align your 8–12 sales agents on daily targets, customer leads, and competitive intel. Mornings are spent in the field with agents, observing pitches to church groups or chamas, coaching on objection handling, and troubleshooting stock shortages at the local shop. Afternoons rotate between recruiting interviews, mentoring underperformers, coordinating with the shop Administrator on inventory, and pulling sales data for your weekly report to the Area Sales Manager. You'll spend Thursday evening preparing performance insights and strategic recommendations, flagging market trends (e.g. competitor pricing, seasonal demand shifts) and identifying which agents need capacity-building training. By Friday, you're celebrating wins, resolving agent grievances, and planning next week's territory priorities—all while staying hyper-aware of daily cash and agent productivity metrics.
