Lecturer – Old Testament Studies

The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) — a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning located in Nandi County, Kenya — invites applications from qualified and committed scholars for the position of Lecturer in Old Testament Studies. This is a full-time academic appointment within the School of Theology, offering an opportunity to shape the next generation of Christian ministers, scholars, and community leaders.

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Old Testament Studies and related theology subjects
• Develop engaging course materials, syllabi, and instructional resources aligned with curriculum standards
• Conduct original research and publish peer-reviewed scholarly articles, book chapters, or monographs
• Participate actively in curriculum development, review, and academic quality assurance processes
• Set, administer, moderate, and mark coursework, assignments, and examinations
• Supervise and examine students' research projects, dissertations, and theses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Provide academic advising, student mentorship, and spiritual nurture to assigned students
• Participate in departmental, School, and University committees and governance structures
• Engage in community service, church outreach, and ministry-related programmes consistent with Adventist values
• Support the mission, vision, and strategic objectives of the Department and the University
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department or University Management

• Must hold an earned PhD in Old Testament Studies, Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related discipline from a recognised university
• Must demonstrate at least four (4) years of teaching experience at a tertiary or university level, with evidence of pedagogical effectiveness
• Must possess a Master's degree with a minimum average grade of B+ or equivalent, and a Bachelor's degree with at least Second Class Upper Division or a GPA of 3.0
• Must present a verifiable record of scholarly research, peer-reviewed publications, or conference presentations in the relevant field
• Must be able to integrate biblical scholarship with Seventh-day Adventist theological perspectives across all teaching engagements
• Must demonstrate the ability to design and deliver both in-person and e-learning course content effectively
• Must exhibit strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills suitable for academic and pastoral contexts
• Must be an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing; ordained ministers will have an added advantage
• Must demonstrate commitment to Adventist education philosophy, mission, and values in both professional and personal conduct
• Should be proficient in Microsoft Office, e-learning platforms (e.g., Moodle), and internet-based research tools; knowledge of relevant biblical software (e.g., Logos, BibleWorks) is an asset
• Should be registered or eligible for registration with the relevant professional or academic body where applicable
• Must meet KCSE mean grade of C+ or equivalent as a minimum foundational qualification

The University of Eastern Africa, Baraton offers a competitive remuneration package commensurate with academic qualifications and experience, in line with Adventist university salary scales in Kenya. The estimated monthly salary range for this position is KES 100,000 – 180,000 depending on qualifications, experience, and rank confirmation. Additional benefits typical of UEAB appointments include on-campus housing or housing allowance, medical coverage, and access to university facilities.
